September/October Round Up 2016

Hello there, as always I am playing catch up with myself.. my head is so full of ideas of things I want to write and do but it’s like they all try to escape at the same time and all they manage to do is get stuck along the way and dam up my stream of thought. Things have been pretty busy too with work and family life and I haven’t been well on and off.. good thing this is a hobby for me and not a career or I would be ever so slightly screwed. Anyway on to the books, my reading has slowed down a good bit which is ok because I’m not far off completing my goal for the year so I can relax a bit. July Round Up 2016

Books I Read:

  • Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.K. Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
  • Trophy Life by Elli Lewis

Is it obvious that I’m a Harry Potter fan? I was disappointed in myself a bit that I didn’t manage to get all of the books read, I got through the first three quick enough and it went a bit downhill from there. Goblet of Fire is a big book and the week I started reading it I was very busy so only got to read a chapter here and there but sure I managed a fair bit and I will continue on with the series. June Round Up 2016

Books I Read:

  • Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
  • Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  • Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
  • 11th Hour by James Patterson
  • The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley

I set my myself a goal of 5 books to read for June so I was delighted when I had time to fit in a 6th book in the last week. I read Pride & Prejudice for the very first time, it was slow to start while I adjusted to the style of it but I was surprised to find it quite funny, charming and made me want to read more of her books. May Round Up 2016

Books I Read:

  • Into The Forest (Prequel) by Freedom Matthews
  • The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge
  • City of Glass by Cassandra Clare
  • Flawed by Cecelia Ahern
  • Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

I was very happy with all the reading I got through in May. The stand out books for me were definitely The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge and Flawed by Cecelia Ahern. Both YA books the authors were a first for me. I had never heard of Frances Hardinge before but I am now a fan and have more of her books on my wish list now, her writing and imagery were very pleasing, with a dark side to it all. Recommended if you like something a bit different. Flawed is Cecelia’s first ever YA novel and I applaud her for stepping out of her usual comfort zone and writing from the heart, she had a story to tell and she did it so well. I couldn’t get enough of this book and am anxiously awaiting the next one, Perfect, which will be out in 2017. Continue reading “May Round Up 2016”
