“Sometimes you have to leave a place to see what’s really going on..”
Hello and welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The Unmaking Of Ellie Rook by Sandra Ireland.
About The Book
“A single phone call from halfway across the world is all it takes to bring her home . . . ‘Ellie, something bad has happened.’
Desperate to escape her ‘kid from the scrapyard’ reputation, Ellie Rook has forged a new life for herself abroad, but tragedy strikes when her mother, Imelda, falls from a notorious waterfall. Here, according to local legend, the warrior queen Finella jumped to her death after killing a king. In the wake of her mother’s disappearance, Ellie is forced to confront some disturbing truths about the family she left behind and the woman she has become. Can a long-dead queen hold the key to Ellie’s survival? And how far will she go to right a wrong?”
What I Thought
Oh I really wasn’t sure what I was going to make of this one but the more I read the more I liked it. As the book progressed secrets started to come out and I thought oh wow I didn’t see that coming. It went in a totally different direction to what I had been expecting and I was grateful for the surprise.
Some of the scenes where hard, there is domestic violence and it’s not sugar coated or overly dramatic, it’s very real and left me with a lump in my throat at one point. I kept urging Ellie to just get out of there or just call someone but it wasn’t that simple. It was a very hard situation.
I will say that it had an immensely satisfying ending and I actually wanted to applaud the book when I had finished. It was all really well told.
This is a very well done psychological thriller that almost tricks you into thinking you’re not reading a thriller.. if that makes sense? It does in my head! Anyway is you’re looking for a quick and engaging read I would recommend you give this a go.
Many thanks to Kelly from LoveBooksGroup for having me on this tour, all opinions are my own and I am not paid to give them.
