Mini Review: Snap by Belinda Bauer

One quick decision

Could be her last..

If you can’t decide what you want to read next but you’re looking for something fast paced and easy to get into, something that’s not bogged down with too much detail but still has a brilliant storyline then this is the perfect read.

“On a stifling summer’s day, eleven-year-old Jack and his two sisters sit in their broken-down car, waiting for their mother to come back and rescue them. Jack’s in charge, she said. I won’t be long. But she doesn’t come back. She never comes back. And life as the children know it is changed for ever. Three years later, mum-to-be Catherine wakes to find a knife beside her bed, and a note that says: I could have killed you. Meanwhile Jack is still in charge – of his sisters, of supporting them all, of making sure nobody knows they’re alone in the house, and – quite suddenly – of finding out the truth about what happened to his mother. But the truth can be a dangerous thing ..”

I was a bit stuck on what to read and didn’t want anything too heavy or part of a series so I snapped this one up (see what I did there ) and found it great. I felt awful for our main character Jack Bright, he’s just a kid but he has the whole of the world on his shoulders. His Mam disappears before him and is later found murdered, his Dad unable to cope abandons him, leaving Jack to look after his two little sisters. All he wants is to find out who killed his Mam and pure chance puts him in a position to do so. Will he get the killer, before the killer gets him?

A great read, one for the crime fans for sure.
