You make it.
You break it.
I have been hooked on Katerina Diamonds DS Imogen Grey series ever since I sunk my teeth into The Teacher. Katerina is not afraid of the dark and sinister and her books touch on very serious issues which could easily make them hard to read but she tells the stories so well. The way she writes her characters makes you care for them so you have to see it through to the end and hope that they will be ok.
About The Book
“When troubled teen Connor moves to Exeter from the US to escape his past, he finds himself embroiled in a world of popular kids and easy girls. Everyone wants to be his friend, but they don’t know about what he did…and they don’t know about his father.
As Connor’s life in England begins to unravel, DS Adrian Miles and his partner Imogen Grey are working up against the clock to catch a serial killer who dates his victims before he kills them. Determined to uncover the truth, Imogen is forced to act as bait – but will she take it too far and risk her own life?”
What I Thought
The Promise is every bit as good as the other books in this series. Miles is drowning in grief and is doing his best to keep his head above water and focus on the case at hand. Grey is worried about Miles but she has her own personal hurt to deal with too. Connor is just a kid but with a past that haunts him and a Father who hurts him. Then we have our mystery diary writer telling us all about their miserable life. But what do all of these have in common, how are they connected?
The bodies keep turning up and time is not on their side.. can Miles and Grey join the dots to catch the killer before it’s too late?
A fantastic read I absolutely flew through it, the writing flows so incredibly well that you nearly have it all read before you even realise it. For crime fans everywhere, highly recommended.
I was approved for a copy of this on NetGalley, all opinions are my own and I am not paid to give them.
I found it too much of a dark read hence I have dropped this author…
I am glad you loved it. Fab review 😍

What’s “dark” about it? Subject matter? Gore? I haven’t read any books from this author, so I don’t know if it’s too dark or just-dark-enough for me. (Hope that makes sense.)
