Mini Review : Changeling by Matt Wesolowski

Hello and welcome to my mini review of Changeling by Matt Wesolowski.

The follow-up to Hydra and part 3 in the Six Stories series, Changeling is finally here (on Kindle at least!). You know from my previous reviews how much I loved Six Stories and Hydra so I immediately preordered Changeling. I worried slightly that it might not be as good as Hydra, even though I knew it would still be great, but wow he’s only gone and done it again!

“On Christmas Eve in 1988, seven-year-old Alfie Marsden vanished in the Wentshire Forest Pass, when a burst tyre forced his father, Sorrel, to stop the car. Leaving the car to summon the emergency services, Sorrel returned to find his son gone. No trace of the child, nor his remains, have ever been found. Alfie Marsden was declared officially dead in 1995.
Elusive online journalist, Scott King, whose `Six Stories’ podcasts have become an internet sensation, investigates the disappearance, interviewing six witnesses, including Sorrel, his son and his ex-partner, to try to find out what really happened that fateful night. He takes a journey through the trees of the Wentshire Forest – a place synonymous with strange sightings, and tales of hidden folk who dwell there. He talks to a company that tried and failed to build a development in the forest, and a psychic who claims to know where Alfie is…
Intensely dark, deeply chilling and searingly thought-provoking, Changeling is an up-to-the-minute, startling thriller, taking you to places you will never, ever forget.”

Changeling fully gave me goosebumps and the sound of tapping is forever going to creep me out! With a missing child and stories about fairies and witches the scariest thing about this tale was discovering the real life monster that existed among them all.

Some of the stories were really quite distressing as we learned more about the monster and it had a real genuine feel about it. Once again I forgot it was fiction and wanted to find out more about the mystery of the missing child and the creepy woods before I remember that it wasn’t real. That’s how good Matt is. I really cannot wait to see what else he comes up with.

I read this on my Kindle, it’s out now and will be out in paperback and audiobook in January 2019. I highly recommend listening to them all in audiobook as they are told in the style of a podcast so should translate well. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

    1. You can start with this one but me personally I’d start with the first as they just get better and better each one and you learn more about Scott King 😊
