The Queen’s Wing by Jessica Thorne #Netgalley

‘I was born to fly,’ I told my brothers. But it isn’t true. I was born to be a pawn in the great game of royal houses, married to someone – anyone – my family deems suitable. If I’m lucky, he’ll be my own age and bearable. If I’m very lucky, he’ll be someone who understands my need to fight, and to fly…

Oh I did not want this to end one bit! I read it so slowly and savoured every last word. I haven’t loved a fantasy romance with an epic love triangle so much since the ACOTAR series. Jessica you are killing me I need book 2 now please and thank you.

“Bel, born to nobility, would do anything to spend her days alongside her brothers – soaring through the heavens in her beloved flyer. She’s faster than any of them, but she knows her days in the skies are numbered. When a surprise attack on the palace lands Bel’s father on the throne, her life is forever changed. In order to secure her father’s empire, Bel must travel to a distant land to marry the recently widowed young ruler, Conleith. But Bel’s new home is less than welcoming: compared to the refined ladies at court, Bel seems like a wild woman, and assassination attempts, treason and mystery threaten her at every turn. With a growing attraction to Con, her life is further complicated by the attentive leader of her bodyguards – a warrior called Shae whom she has loved since childhood…”

Where do I even begin with telling you about the Queen’s Wing. Ok first the cover.. could it be any more stunning! The characters, how can you not love Bel, she’s loving loyal stubborn as they come and willing to give up everything for her family and then for a people on a planet where she doesn’t even come from.

Shae the ever dutiful solider oh my heart!! Con who is so creative and mysterious but so good at heart. Elara, Jondar, Thom, Petra, Zander.. I didn’t want to leave this world. Speaking of worlds, they are described so beautifully that you can totally visualise them in your mind. From Varian’s beautiful scenery to Anthaeus beautiful buildings with green and blue landscapes, everything I picked up the book I went straight back into these places.

Then of course there is the bad guys the Gravians who are ruthless and deadly and willing to do anything to get what they want.

Bel is taken from her carefree life training to fly in between lessons and is thrust into a life of being a nobel dutiful princess. Can she handle it, can she do what is needed for her family and people? And what of her betrothed, will he be as awful as she imagines or could it be something she never planned for?!

A wonderful story, beautifully written, I’m so looking forward to book 2.

Many thanks to Bookouture for this copy from Netgalley, all opinions are my own and I am not paid to give them.
