Something Is In The Woods..
Well!! I had to put this down and walk away for a bit to gather my thoughts before I could put a pen to paper. I was very excited to read Creature, I don’t often get to read Horror so I was looking forward to something different, a bit of scary monster gore. What I wasn’t expecting was to get so emotionally involved with the characters Kate, Andrew and their dog Buttons.
I will say this book was a bit of a slow burner but that’s not a bad thing if anything it totally adds to the suspense and had me on edge! There is a lot of emphasis on Kate’s illness and her relationship with Andrew before we get to the actual scary monster bit. For a while I did wonder if the focus would be on psychological terror and no actual creatures but I kept going and I wasn’t disappointed. When you get to that point and discover who or what is terrorizing them it’s just brilliant. It’s incredibly hard for me to say anything here without giving too much away.
About The Book
“The monsters live inside of Kate Woodson. Chronic pain and a host of autoimmune diseases have robbed her of a normal, happy life. Her husband Andrew’s surprise of their dream Maine lake cottage for the summer is the gift of a lifetime. It’s beautiful, remote, idyllic, a place to heal.
But they are not alone. Something is in the woods, screeching in the darkness, banging on the house, leaving animals for dead.
Just like her body, Kate’s cottage becomes her prison. She and Andrew must fight to survive the creature that lurks in the dead of night.”
I really enjoyed reading Creature it left me struggling for words I want to just say I loved it go read it but that doesn’t quite make a review. Don’t come here and read this though if you’re looking for happy endings, it’s a horror after all and how horrors should be just leaving you stunned like, did I really just read that? I really liked it, I wanted something different and I definitely got that, it makes me want to delve deeper into horror and see what else Hunter Shea has to offer.
