Everything Is Lies by Helen Callaghan @hecallaghan @MichaelJBooks

“What if your parents had been lying to you since the day you were born?”

I was absolutely intrigued by Everything Is Lies after seeing it all over Twitter and I couldn’t wait to read it. This is a really great book for setting some time aside for to get nicely absorbed in it.

Thank you to Sarah Harwood at Michael Joseph, Penguin for sending me a copy to review. I’m not going to lie I absolutely squealed when it arrived and I realised she had sent me a hardback copy, thrilled!!

No one is who you think they are.

Sophia’s parents lead quiet, ordinary lives. At least that is what she’s always believed.

Everyone has secrets.

Until the day she arrives at her childhood home to find a house ringing with silence. Her mother hanging from a tree. Her father lying in a pool of his own blood, near death.

Especially those closest to you.

The police are convinced it is an attempted murder-suicide. But Sophia is sure that the woman who brought her up isn’t a killer. With her father in a coma, it is up to Sophia to clear her mother’s name. To do this she needs to delve into her family’s past – a past full of dark secrets she never suspected where true…”

And oh what a past her Mom was hiding, totally unexpected. Sophia learns about her Moms past by reading her notebooks and I thought it was fantastic that the notebooks were laid bare for us too so we are learning everything that Sophia is and not just getting a glossary. I spent Mother’s Day curled up in bed with this book and it was time well spent. Just imagine realising that no one in your life is who they say they are and discovering all of this under harrowing circumstances.

I really don’t want to give anything away as I feel it’s something you need to read and discover for yourself. I highly recommend and I know you will want to gobble it all up but take your time and take it all in but most importantly, enjoy it!

Everything Is Lies by Helen Callaghan is out now and is available in Hardback, paperback, kindle and audible. Helen also has another book out called Dear Amy which came out before this and I am definitely going to treat myself to it as I loved her writing style. I received Everything Is Lies for the purpose of a review, all opinions are my own and I am not paid to give them.
