September/October Round Up 2016

Hello there, as always I am playing catch up with myself.. my head is so full of ideas of things I want to write and do but it’s like they all try to escape at the same time and all they manage to do is get stuck along the way and dam up my stream of thought. Things have been pretty busy too with work and family life and I haven’t been well on and off.. good thing this is a hobby for me and not a career or I would be ever so slightly screwed. Anyway on to the books, my reading has slowed down a good bit which is ok because I’m not far off completing my goal for the year so I can relax a bit.

Books I Read:

  • Hogwarts : An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide (Pottermore Presents #3)
  • Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies (Pottermore Presents #1)
  • The Call by Peadar O’Guilin
  • My Girl by Jack Jordan
  • Mammy’s Favourite by Sarah Flint
  • Fallen by Lauren Kate
  • The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
  • Torment by Lauren Kate
  • Passion by Lauren Kate
  • Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

Book Highlight :

I need to shine a big fat light on The Call by Peadar O’Guilin, I don’t care how many times I’ve mentioned this book I loved it such a great read and it has a permanent place on my shelf now. If you like a bit of Irish folklore thrown in with a dystopian YA theme then this book is for you.. think Hunger Games set in Ireland with fairies (only not pretty little fairies but the type from Irish legend you know the ones who steal your babies and trap you in their fairy rings? Yes I bet that got your attention, go get it there’s another one to follow soon I hope).

I have a thing about Angels and Demons I just love to read about them and the Fallen series pulled me right in, I found some of the follow-up books a bit slow but overall I loved how it all came together. If you like Angels/Demons/Soulmates and an endless quest for true love and saving the world, then you’ll like this series.

Book Haul :

  • The Call by Peadar O’Guilin
  • The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett
  • The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
  • Time Lord Fairy Tales
  • Illustrated Chamber of Secrets

Kindle Haul :

  • My Girl by Jack Jordan
  • Mummy’s Favourite by Sarah Flint
  • Pottermore Presents Short Stories Collection
  • This Savage Song by VE Schwab
  • Passion by Lauren Kate

There’s a nice bit of a mix in there, if you like a good crime thriller My Girl and Mummy’s Favourite were excellent I flew through them. If you want to know anymore about the books mentioned just ask, you can comment below or throw me a tweet.

  1. Wow!! This is my first book blog that I have read and it’s brilliant, I am looking for new books to read and seeing your passion for reading makes me think I need to get a move on and make time for reading! Thanks for sharing!

    1. It’s a good one to pull you in, I find any YA (young adult) books make getting back into reading easier as even though they deal with bigger issues they do it in a way that’s relatable 🙂

    1. Not as many as I would like but I do try 🙂 this time of year tv is good so I’m not reading as hard lol I suppose fantasy isn’t for everyone but it’s really down to you and your interests, when you find a book that pulls you in it’s easier to find others like it and go from there. Like you might prefer a supernatural element in a normal world over a dystopian where you would really need to use your imagination to immerse yourself in that world

  2. Nice haul here! Are the two Terry Pratchett books your first foray into Discworld? I only ask because they’re often the two hardest to read (they’re more world building and not as good as his later books). Hopefully you get through them as they really do open a door to a magical and hilarious world!
